CONFIDENT RIDER WORKSHOP

WHAT IS THE CONFIDENT RIDER WORKSHOP?
This is a presentation of techniques, drawn from evidence-based interventions in clinical psychology, applied to increasing rider confidence and performance and to overcoming barriers to pleasurable riding experiences.

HISTORY OF THE WORKSHOP
The workshop was first presented in the early 1990’s at Trillium Morgan Horse Farm in Orono, Ontario. It began with primary focus on helping people who were limiting or avoiding riding because of fears and anxieties and grew to include techniques to increase confidence for competitive performance. It has been offered as a 2 hour overview, a one day skills acquisition program and as an 8 session, small group hands-on training program.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
This session will introduce the 7 themes of the Confident Rider Program:
  • Awareness of psychological factors impacting riding
  • The role of mind control
  • The power of visualization
  • The shortcuts of symbolization
  • The basics of desensitization
  • Skills for behavioral management
